Hollywood loves to surprise us with unlikely pairings, but Tom Brady and Jane Fonda is one we never expected to see. Not only are the two co-starring in the upcoming film 80 for Brady, the football star recently went out of his way to send Fonda flowers after her shoulder replacement surgery. And she was impressed.
“He sent me a humongous thing of orchids because I had my shoulder replaced. I think it’s going to last forever … the shoulder and the orchids,” the actress, 84, recently said while arriving at the Lo Máximo Awards, per People.
Fonda was joined by her Grace and Frankie co-star and good friend Lily Tomlin, who will also star in 80 for Brady, a hilarious true story of four friends who road trip to see their favorite quarterback play in 2017’s Super Bowl LI. “I’m gonna get my shoulder replaced so he’ll send me some,” Tomlin quipped.
Fonda and Tomlin’s on-screen quartet will be completed by Rita Moreno and Sally Field, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Brady, who just announced his return to professional football after a two-month retirement, will portray himself while also producing the film.
Tomlin revealed that Brady personally reached out to Fonda to offer the role. “Tom Brady phoned her to tell her he was trying to make a movie about them,” she said. “And it’s just really delightful to see. It was wonderful. And so we look like your typical Tom Brady fan.”
Fonda concurred. “And we’re in our 80s,” she said. “80 for Brady,” Tomlin added. The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but production is set to take place this spring, THR reports. On February 23, Moreno shared the movie news on Instagram. “Next up, the girls and I take a trip to the #SuperBowl,” she captioned the post.

While Brady has had his fair share of big-screen cameos over the years, including those in Stuck On You, Entourageand Ted 2this project introduces a whole new world to the athlete.
Fonda and Tomlin, on the other hand, couldn’t be more familiar with tackling the set together (pun intended). After pandemic-related production delays, the first four episodes of Grace and Frankie‘s final season dropped on Netflix in August. Filming wrapped in November, and according to Deadlinethe rest of the season is expected to release early this year—featuring a cameo from the Queen of Country, Dolly Parton.
Wow, so much entertainment (and so many laughs) to look forward to!
